Following work carried out within the framework of the Council of Europe, the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, together with the city of Dyon, organised under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment, an international seminar on Environmental Education and Natural History Musea. During the Dijon seminar were, in particular, explored 1. Ways and means of developing environmental education programmes using the natural history musea as starting points. 2. Introducing actuality in the themes covered by the musea. Both traditional and experimental facilities were examined highlighting the minimum requirements in terms of space and equipment for environmental education.  During discussion sessions, participants from 6 european countries indicated the spatial problems in natural history museum, those related to animation, as well as what needed to be done. The practical conclusions resulting from the discussion are reproduced in this publication, for the intention of policy makers, senior staff from natural history musea, and planners.
