The key challenges for the Association in the coming years are likely to be:
• The need to make a leap forward in making the principles of development education an integral part of the education system; building on the achievements of past years as well as on governmental initiatives such as DFID's Enabling Effective Support programme; the growing political attention given to lifelong learning; and the forthcoming United Nations Decade tor Education tor Sustainable Development (2005 - 2014).
• The need to redevelop the DEA as an organisation belonging to, listening to, and building on the expertise of its members; becoming less of a provider of services tor members and more of an enabler and facilitator of members' work.
